These commuters often work in ITO, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Patiala House, and Baroda House. For many years, an anonymous poet would recite their latest poems at the station, particularly before the arrival of the Meerut shuttle train. The New Delhi station was established in 1926, suggesting that Tilak Bridge was built around the same time. Tilka Bridge holds a special place in the history of Indian hockey as Harbinder Singh, a legendary player who won gold at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, has lived in the railway colony behind the station for almost half a century.
