Maidan siding presented unique challenges due to its curvature, requiring precise alignment. The work involved dismantling the old rails and installing new aluminum rails on GRP insulators. The team, led by Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer Sumit Kayal, completed the work before 5:00 AM, ensuring smooth morning services. Aluminum rails are expected to reduce energy losses, increase train acceleration, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs. Additionally, they will reduce carbon emissions by 50,000 tons over their lifetime, require less maintenance, and generate less heat in the tunnels.

This follows an earlier exploration and production award given to UBPL in 2019, with the exploration phase concluding after an investment of $164 million. The awarded area spans up to 6,162 square kilometers. The UN has released a report predicting that global demand for minerals essential to renewable energy technologies will nearly triple by 2030. The report, prepared by the UN Secretary-General's expert panel on critical energy transition minerals, outlines recommendations and guiding principles for governments, industries, and stakeholders to ensure a just and sustainable energy transition. India’s renewable energy (RE) capacity could theoretically surpass 24,000 GW, however, a recent report by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) highlights the challenges in achieving even a portion of this potential, particularly for net-zero emissions by 2070. The obstacles stem from issues related to land and water availability, as well as population density.
